DASOM BAEK
Dasom Baek is a composer, improviser and performer of traditional Korean instruments, the daegeum and sogeum.
Dasom pursues contemporary music rooted in traditional Korean instrumental performance, combining the daegeum with live electronics. She is a Certified Master of National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 45 (Daegeum Sanjo). She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Korea National University of Arts, and is currently completing a PhD at Seoul National University.
An active soloist, she has performed as a Kumho Young Artist and played a concerto with the KBS Gugak Orchestra. She has won the Park Rokju Gugak Contest and the Nanggye Gugak Contest, and placed 2nd at the Dong-A Gugak Competition. She has also represented Korea at the ASEAN-KOREA International Flute Festival. In 2019 she was selected as a fellow for the OMI Music program in New York, collaborating with musicians of various genres from different countries. Afterwards, she held a solo concert of her own compositions, marking a key step in her path as a composer.
She was selected for the 2020 APaMM showcase, organized by the Ulsan Cultural Foundation, and for Jazzkorea Festival 2020, organized by the Korean Cultural Centre in Germany. In August of the same year she released her debut album, 〈무(無): Nothingness〉. In 2021 she was selected as a showcase artist at SXSW and held a solo concert at the National Gugak Center in Seoul. She was also selected for the 2021 APaMM showcase and for Journey to Korean Music 2021, organized by the Korea Arts Management Service. In November of the same year she released 〈Absence〉 with Argentinian cellist Violeta García on Kit Records (UK).
In 2022 she performed at New Grounds Festival in Rotterdam, Rewire Festival in The Hague, BRDCST in Brussels and Freespace Jazz Festival in Hong Kong. In August she released the live recording album 〈Kkum 37–Geori〉 with Jared Redmond, and in November the improvisation album 〈Turbulator〉 on Mungmusic Label (KR), with Massimo Magee (sopranino saxophone) and Taekjoon Kim (flute, alto flute).
In 2023 she released her second solo album, 〈Mirror City〉, on Métron Records (UK). The album received five stars from Songlines. That year she performed at K-Music Festival in London and Freespace Jazz Festival in Hong Kong.
In 2024 she performed at SXSW in Texas, ACC World Music Festival in Gwangju, Imaterial Festival in Évora (Portugal), the UNESCO International World Music Festival in Ambon (Indonesia) and CINARS in Montreal. In 2025 she performed at Sinsal Festival in Vigo (Spain).
In 2026 she released 〈Unbalance〉 with Carlos Ferreira on Beacon Sound (US), and performed at Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), Nascentes Festival (Portugal) and Cross Culture Festival in Warsaw (Poland). In November 2026 she performs at Musée Guimet in Paris, Musée des Confluences in Lyon and Small World Music Festival in Toronto.
Her new project, 〈Nabi〉, written for a trio of daegeum & voice, cello and drums, was selected for PAMS Pitching 2026 and will premiere in 2027.

백다솜은 한국 전통 악기를 기반으로 한 현대적이고 실험적인 음악을 추구하는 창작자이자 대금, 소금 연주자이다. 백다솜은 국가무형유산 제45호 대금산조 이수자이며, 한국예술종합학교 예술사 및 예술전문사를 졸업하고 서울대학교 음악대학 박사과정을 수료하였다.
솔리스트 연주자로서 금호 영아티스트, KBS국악관현악단 협연, 동아국악콩쿠르 2위, 박록주국악경연대회 최우수, 난계국악경연대회 대상, ASEAN-KOREA Flute Festival 한국 대표 연주 등 국내외에서 활발히 활동해 왔다. 2019년 뉴욕 아트 오마이(Art OMI) 레지던시 펠로우로 선정되어 여러 나라 아티스트들과 협업하였고, 이후 백다솜 콘서트를 열며 본격적인 창작자의 길을 걷게 되었다.
울산문화재단 주관 2020 APaMM 쇼케이스 아티스트, 주독일한국문화원 주관 Jazzkorea Festival 2020 아티스트로 선정되었으며, 같은 해 1집 〈무(無): Nothingness〉를 발표하였다. 2021년에는 SXSW 쇼케이스 아티스트로 선정되었고, 국립국악원 사랑방중계 온라인 콘서트, 울산문화재단 2021 APaMM 쇼케이스, 예술경영지원센터 2021 저니투코리안뮤직 저니루키, 국립국악원 공감시대 솔리스트 편에 참여하였다. 같은 해 11월 영국 레이블 Kit Records에서 아르헨티나 첼리스트 Violeta García와 함께 DASOM x VIOLETA의 첫 앨범 〈Absence〉를 발매하였다.
2022년에는 로테르담 New Grounds Festival, 헤이그 Rewire Festival, 브뤼셀 BRDCST에 참여하였고, 무용 작품 〈Seoul Blue〉의 작곡가이자 음악감독으로 런던, 로마, 밀라노 투어를 하였으며, 10월 홍콩 Freespace Jazz Fest에 참여하였다. 같은 해 8월 현대음악앙상블에서 함께 활동하는 Jared Redmond와 라이브 레코딩 음반 〈꿈 37-거리〉를, 11월에는 색소포니스트 Massimo Magee, 플루티스트 김택준과 함께 멍뮤직 레이블에서 즉흥음악 음반 〈Turbulator〉를 발표하였다.
2023년에는 영국 레이블 Métron Records에서 2집 〈거울도시 Mirror City〉를 발매하였으며, 이 앨범은 영국 음악지 Songlines에서 별 다섯 개를 받았다. 같은 해 홍콩 Freespace Jazz Festival, 영국 K-Music Festival, 아트성수 페스티벌에 참여하였고, 대금 연주자 서승미의 앨범에 프로듀서로 참여하였다.
2024년에는 미국 SXSW, 광주 ACC 월드뮤직페스티벌, 포르투갈 에보라 Imaterial Festival, 인도네시아 암본 UNESCO 국제월드뮤직페스티벌, 캐나다 몬트리올 CINARS에서 공연하였고, 2025년에는 스페인 비고 Sinsal Festival에서 공연하였다.
2026년에는 미국 레이블 Beacon Sound에서 Carlos Ferreira와 함께 〈Unbalance〉를 발매하였고, 에스토니아 Tallinn Music Week, 포르투갈 Nascentes Festival, 폴란드 바르샤바 Cross Culture Festival에서 공연하였다. 11월에는 파리 기메 박물관, 리옹 콩플뤼앙스 박물관, 토론토 Small World Music Festival에서 공연한다.
대금과 목소리, 첼로, 드럼 트리오를 위한 신작 〈나비〉는 2026 서울아트마켓 팸스피칭에 선정되었으며, 2027년 초연 예정이다.
