DASOM BAEK
Dasom Baek is a composer, improviser, lecturer, Collaborator and performer of traditional Korean instruments, including Daegeum, Sogeum.
Dasom pursues ground-breaking and modern music rooted in traditional Korean instrumental performance. She is a Certified Master of Important Intangible Cultural Asset, no.45. She has achieved Bachelor’s and Master's degrees from the Korea National University of Arts, and is currently undertaking a PhD course at Seoul National University.
An active soloist, she has performed as a Kumho Young Artist and played a concerto with the KBS Gugak Orchestra. She has won both the Park Rokju Gugak Contest and Nanggye Gugak Contest, whilst achieving 2nd place at the Dong-A Gugak Competition. She has also represented Korea at the ASEAN-KOREA International Flute Festival. Active both at home and abroad, in 2019 she was selected as a fellow for the OMI Music program in New York, collaborating with various genres of musicians from different countries. Subsequently, she held a solo concert showcasing her compositions, marking a key milestone in her path to becoming a fully-fledged composer.
She was selected to play at the 2020 APaMM showcase, organized by the Ulsan Cultural Foundation, and at the Jazzkorea Festival 2020, organized by the Korean Cultural Centre in Germany. In August of the same year she released her debut album, titled <무(無): Nothingness>. In 2021 she was selected as a showcase artist at SXSW Festival and also had a solo concert at the National Gugak Center in Seoul. She was selected to play at the 2021 APaMM showcase, organized by the Ulsan Cultural Foundation, and 2021 Journey to Korean Music, organized by Korea Arts Management Service. In Nobember of the same year she released <Absence> with Argentinian Cellist, Violeta Garcia at Kit Records(UK).
In 2022 She played New Music Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Rewire Festival in Hague, Netherlands, BRDCST in Brussels, Belgium, Freespace Jazz Festival in Hong Kong. In August of the same year she released Live recording album, titled <Kkum 37- Geori> with her contemporary ensemble member, Jared Redmond. In Novemver, she released Improvise album, titled <Turbulator> at Mungmusic Label(KR)
with Massimo Magee (sopranino saxophone), , and Taekjoon Kim (flute, alto flute). In 2023 she released her 2nd solo album <Mirror City> at Metron Records(UK) and played K-music Festival in UK, Freespace Jazz Festival in Hong Kong.
백다솜은 한국 전통 악기를 기반으로 한 현대적이고 실험적인 음악을 추구하는 창작자이자 대금, 소금연주자 이다. 백다솜은 국가무형문화재 제 45호 대금산조 이수자이며 한국예술종합학교 예술사 및 예술전문사 졸업, 서울대학교 음악대학 박사과정을 수료하였다. 솔리스트 연주자로서 활동해온 백다솜은 금호 영아티스트, KBS국악관현악단 협연, 동아국악콩쿠르 2위, 박록주국악경연대회 최우수, 난계국악경연대회 대상, ASEAN-KOREA Flute Festival, International Flute Festival 한국 대표 플루티스트로 연주 등 국내외에서 활발한 활동을 해왔다. 2019년 뉴욕 아트 오마이 (Art OMI) 레지던시 펠로우로 선정되어 해외 아티스트들과 다양한 협업을 통해 경계 없는 활발한 작업을 하고 있으며 이후 백다솜 콘서트를 열며 본격적인 창작자의 길을 걷게 되었다. 울산문화재단 주관인 2020 APaMM 쇼케이스 아티스트 당선, 주독일한국문화원 주관인 Jazzkorea Festival 2020 아티스트로 선정되었으며 같은 백다솜의 1집 <무(無): Nothingness> 를 발표하였다. 2021년에는 세계 최대 축제인 SXSW에 쇼케이스 아티스트로 당선이 되었으며 국립국악원 사랑방중계 온라인 콘서트, 울산문화재단 주관 2021 APaMM 쇼케이스 아티스트 당선, 예술경영지원센터 주관인 2021 저니투코리안뮤직 저니루키, 국립국악원 공감시대 솔리스트 편에 연주하였으며 같은 해 11월에 영국 레이블 Kit Records에서 아르헨티나 첼리스트인 Violeta Garcia 와 함께 작
DASOM x VIOLETA의 첫 앨범 <Absence>를 발매하였다. 2022년에는 로테르담 New Music Festival, 헤이그 Rewire Festival, 브뤼셀의 BRDCST 축제에 참여하였으며 Seoul Blue 라는 무용 작품의 작곡가이자 음악감독으로 런던과 이태리 로마, 밀라노 투어를 하였으며 10월엔 홍콩에서 진행하는 Freespace Jazz Fest에 참여하였다.
같은 해 8월엔 함께 현대음악앙상블에서 활동하는 Jared Redmond와 함께 벌트 꿈 37- 거리 라이브 레코딩으로 음반을 출시하였고 11월엔 색소포니스트 Massimo Magee와 플루티스트 김택준과 함께 한국 레이블인 멍뮤직 레이블에서 즉흥음악 음반을 발표하였다.
2023년에는 런던 레이블 Metron Records에서 2집 <거울도시>발매 하였으며 홍콩 Freespace Jazz Festival, 영국 K-Music Festival, 아트 성수 페스티벌 등에서 활동하고 있으며 현재 2023년 대금 연주자 서승미 앨범에 프로듀서로 참여하고 있다.
